This article provides information about creating custom error pages in Plesk. For instance, if any of your website visitors or users enter an incorrect URL or if they are not authorized to access some specific directories, an error page will be displayed to them. Usually, the webmasters and the website owners prefer customizing the error pages by branding them with a corporate image or any suitable image that provides a link to the home page or any other page on the website. You might have seen interesting error pages as well.
NOTE that creating a customized error page is optional. An error page is always displayed irrespective of whether a custom error page is created or not. In case an error page has not been customized, a default error page is displayed.
Step 1 : Create The Custom Error Page
In order to create the content for the custom error page, you can make use of the Plesk File Manager. In the File Manager, you will be able to create a new file and directly edit it on the web server.
Another option is to make use of the text editor of your preference for creating the custom error page on your local computer and then you can upload this file on your account.
Step 2 : Enable The Custom Error Page
You need to follow the steps mentioned below for enabling the custom error pages:
- Login to Plesk.
- On the sidebar present on your left, click on the option – ‘Websites & Domains’.
- Look for the domain for which you want to create the custom error page and click on the ‘Virtual Directories’ option.
- Click on the tab – ‘Error Documents’.
- Look for the error condition that you want to change and then click on it.
- On the page – ‘Edit Error Document’, the list box – ‘Type’, select one of the following options:
* Default : For this option, the website makes use of the Windows IIS default error page.
* File : For this option, the concerned file should already exist in the error-doc directory.
* URL : For this option, the error document needs to be in the directory other than error_docs.
- In the ‘Location’ text box, enter the filename or URL for the custom error page.
- Click on OK.
